Google Expectedly Beat `Seri’ Hands Down in Comparison Study!

Comparions are not always fair. But are all the same inevitable. And we humans excel in this art. Hence, here goes another round of a little unreasonable but at the same time interesting comparison. This time, the sizing up is done between the leading internet search engine and the newly launched voice command software called ‘Seri' by Apple Inc.

The matching is stated to be not fair as Google responds to textual queries that have been presumably entered in a clear and comprehensible manner. While Seri needs to understand voice commands and then respond accordingly.

The comparison has been done by Piper Jaffray as part of a study and the findings have been reported in the Fortune magazine recently. The study based its findings on two key aspects – query comprehension and accuracy of the responses.

Not surprisingly, Google beat Apple Inc on both counts convincingly. But all the same, it is interesting as well as thought provoking to see the results.

The study found that Google fared brilliantly when it came to query comprehension and scored an impressive ‘A' grade, i.e., 100 per cent of the times the queries where put to it. And when it came to the responses, Google's performance was above average. It scored a ‘B' grade that is equivalent to 86 per cent.

Seri needed a quiet room to grasp and understand the queries. This it managed to do so 89 per cent of the times they were put to it. This denotes a ‘B' grade. And when it came to the correctness of responses, the performance levels dropped greatly to just 68 per cent. When moved to a noisy street, the outcome was 83 per cent and 62 per cent respectively.

In all 800 questions were put to Seri by piper Jaffray. This does constitute a substantial base enough.
